In the heart of New Westminster, Mallory, founder of WasteKnot, is redefining what it means to plan celebrations with the environment in mind. Since launching her business in 2022, this former musical theatre performer has combined her creative talents with her passion for sustainability to create memorable, eco-conscious events.

"Going green isn't a trend, it's just normal now," says Mallory, whose journey to becoming an event planner began while catering extravagant New York City weddings. Witnessing excessive food and plastic waste at these lavish affairs sparked an idea: what if event planners used their influence to reduce environmental impact without sacrificing celebration?

After an injury ended her performing career, Mallory found herself settling in New Westminster with her husband. The vibrant community of female entrepreneurs embraced her, giving her the confidence to launch WasteKnot.

What makes WasteKnot unique is Mallory's collaborative approach. Rather than taking complete control of an event, she works alongside clients to make environmentally conscious choices that align with their priorities. For food-loving couples, this might mean crafting menus featuring ocean-wise seafood or plant-based options, ensuring minimal leftovers, and arranging for any excess to be repurposed.

"I don't want to just plan someone's wedding and have them not be involved," Mallory explains. "We do it together—it's a win-win for everyone."

Beyond weddings, Mallory plans celebrations for local small businesses. Her environmental expertise allows her to suggest simple changes that make significant differences. Many of these eco-swaps save money, too! She shares this knowledge through her social media and blogs, hoping to educate and inspire others, especially those in the event industry.

The most rewarding aspect of her work? The lasting connections formed with clients. "Many of my clients end up becoming good friends," she says, noting that relationships often continue long after the final invoice.

Currently booking weddings for 2026, Mallory offers reasonable hourly rates and transparent contracts. As a certified wedding planner with the Wedding Planning Institute of Canada, she brings professionalism and expertise to every event.

Whether you're planning a wedding or business celebration, WasteKnot offers a way to celebrate life's special moments while respecting our planet. You can reach Mallory through her website at wasteknot.ca or email at wasteknotca@gmail.com.

In a world where excessive consumption often overshadows special moments, WasteKnot reminds us that the most memorable celebrations can also be mindful ones.
