A favourite New Westminster tradition is returning to the riverfront. After years away, the Quayside Boardwalk Sale is coming back to the neighbourhood where it first began in 2008. For nine years, the sale brought neighbours together along one of the most scenic walks in the city. Now, the Quayside Community Board is helping bring that same spirit back, with tables, treasures, music, food trucks, and a strong focus on community connection.
The Quayside Community Board started with a simple purpose. It gave residents in local apartment buildings a way to share ideas, raise concerns, and speak with one voice. Today, the board is becoming more grassroots and open. Anyone in the neighbourhood can attend meetings and take part.
Naomi Scott, secretary of the board, has seen that shift up close. After living in Quayside for many years, she found deeper connection through volunteering.
The Boardwalk Sale has a history of its own. It was first started in 2008 by James Crosty. Over time, it grew into a major annual event, with more than 150 tables, entertainment, and family-friendly fun. It ran for nine years before James moved away.
People in the neighbourhood never forgot it.
When residents kept asking for the sale to return, Naomi raised her hand. Co-organizer Barbara Beam stepped in to help, and together they began rebuilding the event for a new season in New Westminster. After the long hiatus, James Crosty is proud that the festival is returning.
The Quayside Boardwalk Sale is part garage sale, part community festival, and part summer stroll.
Shoppers can expect a wide range of household goods, second-hand finds, and handmade crafts. Because the sale takes place on parkland, sellers cannot offer food or unsafe items. Licensed food trucks will be nearby at Reliance Court and K de K Court.
The Boardwalk Sale offers something for everyone, with musicians performing throughout the day, lots for children to see and explore along the boardwalk, and a popular playground waiting at the end.
Sellers can choose a $10 empty spot or a $25 spot with a table included. The event is not for profit. Fees help cover permits, insurance, first aid, and other costs needed to keep the day safe and well organized.

Quayside is a small New Westminster neighbourhood with a big population. Close to 7,000 people live in the area between Quayside Drive and the Fraser River. Many are in apartment buildings, which can make it easy to pass neighbours without really knowing them.
That is part of what makes this event special.
Naomi described the boardwalk as "The most amazingly beautiful venue you can imagine for a garage sale."
The Q2Q ferry also makes it easy for Queensborough residents to visit. Organizers hope people from across New Westminster will come by, browse, eat, listen, and stay awhile.
For the Quayside Community Board, the sale is about more than bargains. It is about helping people feel connected where they live.
Volunteers are still welcome. Some can help with registration and email questions before the event. Others can help with setup, guiding sellers, answering questions, and cleanup on the event day.
Naomi said the goal is to “leave it in the shape we found it” and be good neighbours to the city.
The next QCB meeting is Wednesday, June 24. Anyone interested in participating can email info@quaysideboard.com.
From river views to local music, the Quayside Boardwalk Sale is bringing fresh energy back to the New Westminster waterfront.
